Hornell School District Approves a Child Safety Zone Study

December 7th, 2017

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell BOE voted to move forward on an agreement with the Pupil Transportation Safety Institute to conduct a Child Safety Zone study for the city school district Wednesday evening.

Once authorized by the Board of Education or trustees and the voters of the school district, transportation may be provided for pupils in kindergarten through 8th grade who reside within two miles of the school, and in grades 9th through 12th who reside within three miles. As it stands now, those students live too close to the school to take the bus, but if the study concludes they are passing through a hazardous area, they would immediately be eligible for transportation.

In other news, Mick Pavlick from Welliver Construction updated everyone on the progress of the current capital project and was optimistic that a January 12th deadline will be met for completion of the gym.

An out of state field trip was approved for the Intermediate School Music Department to travel to Cleveland, Ohio on June 19th, and 20th.

The board approved an amended lease renewal with Amexstra Inc for the maintenance building at 27 Bank Street effective December 1st, 2017 through November 30th, 2018.

And finally, with the recommendation of the Audit Committee, a Budget Preparation Calendar will be put together for the 2018-19 school year.
