July 13, 2024

The Hornell Steamers win streak is now at nine games after a 7-3 victory over the Salamanca Lizards on Saturday night. Hornell is now 22-7-1 on the season.

Braden McLin (Louisiana Christian) collected a RBI groundout to get the Steamers on the board in the 1st.

Salamanca scored their only three runs of the game in the 3rd inning. Tyler Curtis hit a two-run double and Mitchell McKinney made it 3-1 with a RBI groundout.

Hornell took the lead back for good in the bottom of the 4th. Elijah Nichols (Arkansas State) had a RBI infield single, Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast State CC) had a single to center, and Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) scored on a wild pitch.

In the 5th, Logan Hoyt (Alfred State) danced out of a bases loaded no-out situation and the Lizards would not threaten the rest of the way. Hoyt ended up picking up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three.

In the 6th, Jackson Legg (LSU Eunice) had a RBI double and Langlotz collected a sacrifice fly to right.

Finn Ellis (U of Charleston) capped the scoring in the 7th when he scampered home on a wild pitch.

Cowan Alfonso (Louisiana Christian) retired all nine batters he face in the final three innings. He struck out seven Lizards and now has 12 strikeouts in his last five innings.

Nichols was 3 for 4 with a RBI, Langlotz was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Nicolas Schwing (Holmes JC) was 2 for 4.

Andrew Hartman was the lone Lizard with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4.

Hornell, who holds a three point lead over second place Genesee, heads to Dansville on Sunday for a 5 p.m. contest with the Gliders.
