Lucy Solo,of Hornell
HORNELL – Lucy M. Solo, 85, of 106 Elizabeth St., died Tuesday morning (May 20, 2014) at McAuley Manor following a brief illness.
A native & life resident of Hornell, she was born May 1, 1929, and was the daughter of Frank & Mary (Falco) Miller.
Lucy was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and later graduated from Hornell High School (Class of 1949). Following high school she earned her beautician’s license from Continental School of Cosmetology in Buffalo. In 1950 Lucy began working as a beautician at Pat Rapp Beauty Salon and within one year purchased the business, re-naming it LuAnn’s Beauty Shop. She owned & operated the business for the next 51 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. She was also a member of AZB Sorority.
Lucy was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph Miller, Anthony “Tony” Miller and Neil “Ed” Miller; 3 sisters, Rose Schiavi, Ann Miller and Janet “Jennie” Grassi.
She was married on July 21, 1951 to Francis “Joe” Solo who survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Judy (Steve) Lamb of Hornell; 2 sons, Fran Solo of Endicott, NY and Christopher Solo of Endicott, NY; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Phil) Quattrini, Matthew Lamb, Erik (Samantha) Solo and Emily Solo; 2 great-grandchildren, Logan Quattrini & Makenzi Quattrini; 1 great-grandson “on the way”; along with several nieces & nephews.
The family of Lucy M. Solo will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Lucy’s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
