Painted Post Parents Face Manslaughter Charges, For Baby’s Death

Manslaughter, Falsifying Records, Narcotic Sales and Endangering the Welfare of a Child Arrests

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on November 12, 2021, deputies of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua L. Lewis, age 31, and Sammantha M. Bonham, age 29, of Elmwood Lane, Painted Post, New York, following an investigation into the death of a child and narcotics sales in Cameron, New York. Mr. Lewis and Ms. Bonham were indicted by a Steuben County Grand Jury and were arrested pursuant to the Indictment Warrants issued.

It is alleged that Mr. Lewis and Ms. Bonham recklessly caused the death of a two month old child. It is also alleged that Ms. Bonham unlawfully sold controlled substances. Mr. Lewis was charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, Falsifying Business Records in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Ms. Bonham was charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a Class C Felony, Criminal Sales of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony, Falsifying Business Records in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Mr. Lewis and Ms. Bonham were held in the Steuben County Jail pending a bail hearing in Steuben County Court. Sheriff Allard thanks the City of Corning Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.

Wlea Update to this press release, From Steuben County D.A. Brooks Baker: the baby who died had fentynal in it’s system, fentyanl overdose was one cause of the babys death, the other was accidental smothering. The two suspects are both the parents of the baby.
