Canisteo Fire Chief Don Lewis reports that the New York State Office Of Fire Prevention and Control, and Steuben County Emergency Services, are surveying the damage in Canisteo. State Route 36 – From Canisteo (Willow Bend) South to Gravel Run is closed. Canisteo is still under “no unnecessary travel” advisory. As of this posting at 1:01pm, there are 146 NYSEG outages in the Town of Canisteo and 43 Steuben Rural Electric outages in Canisteo.
Canisteo-Greenwood School Superintendent Tom Crook tells WLEA that the school buildings in Canisteo are intact. “We moved our buses to the Elementary School, when the dike started to breach,” Crook said.
Hornell Fire Chief Frank Brzowski says there were calls about flooding in basements in homes on Catherine and Emmett Streets in Hornell.
Arkport Mayor George Prete tells WLEA News that he spoke today with Arkport Fire Chief Dwight Smith. Smith is quoted as saying that he did not get any calls about flooded basements in Arkport, but that the Arkport Volunteer Department did assist in helping get flooding under control in South Hornell.
