Smoking Ban Signs, Going Up In Hornell

September 29, 2021

HORNELL, NY – From Mayor John Buckley:

Residents will soon see new signage in our City Parks.

The City of Hornell remains committed to providing the best quality of life to its residents. In June 2021, the Common Council for the City of Hornell passed Local Ordinance 729 banning smoking (including marijuana), vaping and all other tobacco use in our City parks.

Individual smoking in City Municipal parks poses a potential threat to the health and well-being of park goers including children and adults of all ages, due to the possible exposure of second-hand smoke/vaping.

“We want to ensure that all park goers can enjoy the fresh clean air in our City’s green spaces and that our children and residents can safely enjoy our parks and playgrounds.” -Mayor John Buckley

As you enjoy one of our City’s beautiful parks, please be mindful of our children and other park goers and refrain from the use of any and all tobacco products, smoking (including marijuana) and vaping.

“Children are one of life’s most precious gifts and we have a responsibility as parents and citizens of this community to protect them in any way we can.”- Mayor John Buckley

To remind residents and park goers of this important message, the City of Hornell is proud to partner with the Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition (STTAC) who provided signage to raise awareness of the importance of keeping our parks safe, clean and smoke free. Residents will soon see these new signs displayed around our parks.

A HUGE thank you to Sarah Welch and the Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Coalition (STTAC) for partnering with the City on these fantastic news signs and helping us to get our message out there.
