Sonja Sweeney, of North Hornell

NORTH HORNELL-Sonja R. Sweeney, 59, of Cleveland Ave., passed away Saturday evening (Oct. 11, 2014) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a valiant battle with cancer.

 
Born in North Hornell on Dec. 19, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Vera Paulsen Sweeney.

 
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Sonja was a 1973 graduate of Hornell High School and also attended Rochester Institute of Technology.
Following the death of her father in 1996 Sonja assumed ownership of the Robert A. Sweeney Agency Real Estate and Insurance Agency as Broker/Owner.

 

 

She will be remembered for her generosity, her fun personality, a smile and laugh that would light up a room. Always welcoming, Sonja loved to entertain family and friends at either her home or at the cottage on Loon Lake. Visiting with her was always a treat. She was also a true pet lover.

 

 

Always willing to give of her time, Sonja was active in various organizations in the Hornell and Loon Lake community either as a Board Member or fundraiser chairperson.

 

 

Sonja was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.

 

 

Her loving family includes her son, Casey Kellogg of North Hornell; her aunt, Ellen Sengstock of Hornell; as well as her many cousins, friends and loyal employees.

To honor Sonja’s wishes there will be no calling hours and the courtesy of no flowers would be greatly appreciated. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church. Private interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont, at the convenience of her family.
