Steuben County Holds Hearing on Proposed Budget

Steuben County Approves The Budget

BATH, N.Y.- The county legislature held a public hearing on the proposed budget for the 2014 fiscal year. The $186,944,564.00 budget, that was presented to the legislature on November 15, 2013 included a minor tax increase of less than $.05 cents per thousand dollars based on assessed value of property for residents in the Hornell area. County administrator Mark Alger noted that the budget includes a savings of over $900,000.00 as a result of the American Affordable Care Act. The county was responsible for 50% of the medicaid cost with the federal government , however under the AFA, the County now only pays 10% of the cost and Federal Government pays 90%.

Alger in the earlier presentation meeting on November 15, 2013 said that this was basically a “maintenance budget” with no significant increases or decreases in the 2014 fiscal year. Also the Legislators adopted raises for appointed and elected officials amounting to a little over $1000.00 per year on their 2013 salary.
