April 28, 2014

BATH NY – County Legislators voted down a resolution to re-district the county in order to give each of the communities equal representation in the county legislature. Hornell County Legislator Randy Weaver ( D) voted no saying that in a just a few years there will be a new census which would give a better view of the actual populations in the towns and cities in the county, while Hornell Legislator Gary Swackhamer (R) voted yes, to the resolution noting that at this time Hornell is not getting a fair representation.

The Community of Erwin has been growing due to the Corning Incorporated business and residual businesses related to such growth in an area, prompting legislators to take a look at redistricting to give all residents of Steuben county and equal voice.

In other news out of Bath, the Legislature witnessed the presentation of the 2014 Child abuse prevention award, to Susan Neu, a senior caseworker in the child abuse task force with the department of social services, DSS Commisioner Katheryn Muller made the presentation noting that in Steuben County there are an average of two thousand reported cases of abuse and neglect that must be investigated. Muller says Neu’s professionalism and fearless dedication to the job over her twenty eight years and her personally working on over two thousand cases with the department made her an easy choice for the award.
