Canisteo Village Mayor Monica Recktenwald says that the New York State D.O.T. is finishing up the construction in Canisteo. Also, work on the new water lines will be finished by December, and the repairs needed caused by digging for the waterlines will be done in the spring. A construction company called R.B. Construction, out of Candor New York, is handling the Canisteo water line work.
In other Canisteo news, there’s going to be a Community Social in Canisteo, on September 23rd, from 2pm-4pm that day, in downtown Canisteo.

Chronic absenteeism among students has been a nationwide problem since Covid hit in 2020. Canisteo Greenwood School superintendent Tom Crook says there is going to be some communication this week, between school officials and parents of students who have too many absences.
CG School officials report that out of those students who fail courses, 67 percent of those who failed have missed 20 or more days. Canisteo-Greenwood Central School officials also say they Currently have an over 95 percent student attendance at Canisteo Greenwood Central.

CANISTEO, NY – Billy Davis, who used to have a Saturday morning show on WLEA, called in this morning with a very interesting story about a lost dog and a drone. According to Davis, a friend of his in Canisteo, was trying to find a missing animal. Finally, the friend found another friend, who had a friend who owned a drone. The dog, which had been missing for about three days, was spotted in a gully, trapped. “The dog actually barked at the drone,” Davis tells WLEA. “So they heard where the dog was, and it was stuck in a log-jam on Burt Hill.”

The Canisteo Town Board has appointed John Foy as the town codes officer. This is a 6 month position until January when they will appoint one at the regularly designated time, which is at the January meeting.
Also, the Invenergy representative says they’ve got a buyer for a project that will send electricity to NYC. It’s expected that the electricity will originally be sent to the South Hornell substation. The collection lines will be underground and will go to the substation in Jasper, the transmission lines will be going to South Hornell and will be above ground.
