Canisteo-Greenwood Won’t Have Clay Target Teams As An Official Spring Sport

February 13, 2024

The Canisteo Greenwood School Board has revisited the issue of having Clay Target Teams, as a spring sport. “We voted a while ago to make it an official sport,” said Canisteo-Greenwood School Superintendent Tom Crook. “That was prior to the beginning of the school year. However, from talking with the coach Eric Markel, who put it together and came to us a couple of years ago, and it’s gone phenomenally. So they came to us a couple of years ago and asked if they could make it a sport, and have the kids letter in it, just like wrestling and basketball and things like that. This (decision) just makes more sense. Involving the school, has kind of muddied the waters a little bit. So right now it’s just in our best interest to keep the school out of it, and it will run a little bit more smoothly.”

Superintendent Tom Crook also maintains that the clay target team will continue, just not as an official school spring sport.
