Canisteo-Greenwood Update: Changing The Uniforms, Logos, To “The Chargers”

August 22, 2023

CANISTEO, NY – Changing a school team name, it’s a more complicated process than you might think. Because they’re under state orders to drop the team name “Redskins”, Canisteo-Greenwood Central officials are working on coming up with new logos, team uniforms and signs, for the new school team name, “The Chargers”. One important point for the school is to avoid colors on the new CG Chargers uniforms, which might be confused with other team’s jerseys. “We’re telling the digital artists not to put too much black in there, because that makes them look more like a Dansville or Bolivar-Richburg uniform,” Crook said, on this morning’s Newsmaker Show. The Canisteo-Greenwood School Superintendent also says, there won’t have to be a lot of changes to gym floors or on the fields. “We do not have anything on gym floors, that would need to be sanded off, or anything on a field that would need to be repainted because of the name “Redskins”, Crook said this morning on WLEA. “I’m sure it wasn’t done purposely, but we do not have “Redskins” all over the school. It’s more taking down signs from the Booster Clubs,” Crook said. “We do not have to do a lot, as far as rebranding of gym floors.”
