Canisteo Fire Chief Don Lewis Responds To Hartsville Supervisor’s Statement

Novemvber 14, 2023

FROM CANISTEO FIRE CHIEF DON LEWIS: “The Town of Hartsville will not see any changes with their current Fire contract with the Village of Canisteo which ends December 31, 2023. After the first of the year, Canisteo is no longer contracted with Hartsville to be the first responding Fire Department to the Town of Hartsville. I provided the plan to the Deputy Fire Coordinator, who reviews and approves changes to mutual aid plans. The Deputy Coordinator approves plans based on meeting a goal to provide adequate service to or improve service to the individual property being served. Canisteo’s plan not only provides adequate service but improves service in almost half of the district served in Hartsville and Canisteo. The Fire Department for the Village of Canisteo will continue to follow the County’s Mutual Aid Agreement. None of the changes have any impact for the Canisteo-Greenwood Schools. The Fire Department for the Village of Canisteo by no means would do anything to risk public safety.”
