Update On Electric School Buses

September 22, 2023

ALBANY, NY – Because of a Cuomo era law about reducing greenhouse gas by 40 percent by 2030, the state is mandating a change to all electric school buses by 2027. NYSERDA, the New York State Energy Research Development Agency says that the state is putting $500 million dollars towards this happening at schools across the state by that time. This means, among other things, that there’ll have to be more electric bus charging locations along school bus routes. NYSERDA officials say, they’re going to make poorer school districts, what they’ll call “Priority Districts.” NYSERDA says, the state is driven by a commitment to reducing greenhouse gases.

Republican State lawmakers maintain, electric school buses are impractical and too expensive. Also, in Washington DC, Congressman Nick Langworthy says the House GOP are working in hopes of passing a long so that New York (and other states) will not be able to have a ban on gasoline powered vehicles.
