Update: Lots of Absentees In Della Pia/Mitrano Race

June 27, 2018

The primary results for the Democrats in the 23rd congressional district won’t be known until the absentees are counted next week. There are 11 counties in the 23rd congressional district. As such, and with Max Della Pia’s 26 point lead over Tracy Mitrano, it’s still way too early to call that race. We’re hearing that the ballots will be counted as early as July 3 in some county board of elections offices, and as late as July 5 at other county board of elections offices.

Wlea has contacted all the Democratic Election Commissioners, and here is what we’ve found out:

• Allegany County 140 absentees were sent out, 63 were mailed back in.
• Cattaraugus County 280 absentees were sent out, 91 were mailed back in.
• Chautauqua County 600 absentees sent out, 253 absentees were mailed back in.
• Chemung County 414 absentees sent out, 177 were mailed back in.
• Ontario County 157 absentees sent out, 69 were mailed back in.
• Schuyler County 97 absentees sent out, 52 were mailed back in.
• Seneca County 134 absentees were sent out, 55 were mailed back in.
• Steuben County 296 absentees sent out, 120 were mailed back in.
• Tioga County 172 absentees sent out, and 95 were mailed back in.
• Tompkins County 660 absentees were sent out
• Yates County 131 sent out, 66 were mailed back in.

This makes a total (so far) of absentees sent out: 3,081, and a total of 1,041 that have been received back at the county board of elections offices.
