Langworthy Statement on the House Oversight Committee’s Initial Hearing on the Biden Impeachment Inquiry
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, released a statement following today’s hearing.
“It’s clear that President Biden repeatedly lied to the American people regarding his involvement in his family’s business dealings and foreign influence-peddling schemes,” said Rep. Langworthy. “Today’s hearing laid out the overwhelming amount of evidence that warrants further investigation to determine if President Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain. We heard directly from legal and financial experts who confirmed our impeachment inquiry is on the right track. Congress has a constitutional duty to conduct oversight over the executive branch, and we will continue to demand answers on behalf of the American people.”

Key Background
• On September 12, 2023, Speaker Kevin McCarthy launched an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, tasking the House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means to continue to gather evidence and follow the money to determine the extent of President Biden’s abuse of public office.
• The House Oversight Committee identified at least 16 instances in which President Biden lied about his involvement in his family’s foreign business dealings.
• One witness, Jonathan Turley, Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at the George Washington University Law School, stated during the hearing, “I do believe that, after months of investigation, the House has passed the threshold for an inquiry into whether President Joe Biden was directly involved or benefited from the corrupt practices of his son, Hunter, and others.” He later stated, “This idea that you can have millions going to a politician’s family and that’s not benefit, I think, is pretty fallacious.”
