Alton Elmer Olmsted, of Hornell

  HORNELL-Alton Elmer Olmsted, 89, of County Route 70A (Big Creek Road), passed away Saturday morning (July 8, 2017) at Elderwood at Hornell.

  Born in Bath on June 6, 1928, he was a son of the late George and Lila (Jenkins) Olmsted. On Oct. 22, 1947, he was married to the former Evelyn Marie Putnam, who predeceased him on July 24, 2012, after 64 years of marriage. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his two sons, Dale and Bradley Olmsted; his sister, Florence Sheen and his brother, Eldon Olmsted.

  A former resident of Avoca, Alton resided in Reelsboro, N.C. before returning to the Avoca and Hornell area.

  He was employed as a farm manager for the Pat McCotter Farm in North Carolina and also operated a small engine repair service at his home for several years.

  Alton enjoyed fishing as well as water skiing.

  His loving family includes his son, Ronnie (Sue) Olmsted of Gillette, Wyo.; his daughter, Terry (Tom) Drum of Hornell; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Wightman Olmsted of Harleysville, Pa.; his seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; also, his “special” nephew, Anthony “Tony” Sheen and his niece, Cheryl Prente.

  The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Alton Elmer Olmsted.

  To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
