A New Yorker Is One Of Three Americans Released From Chinese Custody

November 27, 2024

GILLIBRAND STATEMENT ON THE RELEASE OF THREE AMERICANS, INCLUDING ONE NEW YORKER, FROM CHINESE CUSTODY

New York, NY – Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement about the release of three Americans, including New York’s Kai Li, from Chinese custody:

“This Thanksgiving, I am so grateful to hear that three Americans, including my constituent, Kai Li, have been released from Chinese custody and are set to be reunited with their families.

For the last several years, my office and I have been working with the Biden administration, Leader Schumer, and most importantly, Kai’s son, Harrison, to help secure Kai’s safe passage back to the United States, and now that day has come. The release of Kai Li, Mark Swidan, and John Leung means that there are no longer any wrongfully detained Americans being held in the People’s Republic of China.

I would like to thank Harrison Li and his family for their tenacious advocacy for Kai over the last several years, as well as President Biden, his staff, and personnel across the United States government who worked tirelessly to bring Kai home.

I will continue to work with President Biden and his administration to secure the release of our wrongfully detained individuals across the world, including my constituent, Ryan Corbett, who has spent over two years wrongfully detained by the Taliban, and the return of the innocent men and women still being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.”

Staying bigger than China – by Harry Moser of Reshoring Initiative

When it comes to U.S.-China trade, the U.S. objective should be: stay bigger than China. It’s too difficult and confrontational to depend on directly limiting China’s growth. Growing the U.S. economy and manufacturing sector is a better strategy.

The Case for Returning U.S. Manufacturing from China

The Case for Returning U.S. Manufacturing from China

By Harry Moser (Reshoring Initiative) and Daniel O’Hara – Real Clear Policy 9-14-23

Harry Moser writes, over the past 40 years, demand for cheaper goods pushed American factories and sourcing offshore to China. Now that China has positioned itself as a challenger to U.S. global leadership, the relationship has changed and the geopolitical risk of manufacturing or sourcing in China has grown.

Moser cites a combination of government incentives, the surge in manufacturing projects for EV batteries, and semiconductor chip investments as the top reasons for the drastic increase.

Wisconsin GOP Congressman Pressures And Forces Alfred Univ, To Shut Down Confucius Insitute

ALFRED, NY – The UK Daily Mail reports that Alfred University has agreed to close its Confucius Institute, “following outrage over national security concerns by House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mike Gallagher.”  The UK Daily Mail story goes on to say, that Rep. Gallagher, last month, demanded more information on the New York school’s Confucius Institute.  “In a June 13 letter obtained by DailyMail.com, university attorney Robert Fisher responded to Gallagher saying Alfred University has decided to close the Confucius Institute ‘as of June 30, 2023,’ Kelly Laco, from the Daily Mail stated.

According to the Daily Mail, Gallagher has worked to shut down most of (meaning hundreds) of Confucius Institutes nationwide, and that there are only five institutes left in the U.S. (including Alfred, which has plans to shut down on June 30 of this year).

The Daily Mail also quoted A.U. attorney Robert Fisher as saying Alfred cares about intellectual property issues.  “”(Alfredz0 takes very seriously the issue of protecting intellectual property and improper technology export.  In addition, the university regularly works with the Department of Commerce and the FBI to ‘strengthen export control policies and processes,’ Fisher told the Daily Mail.

In addition to the pressure from the Wisconsin Congressman, an activist named Peter Wood, of the National Association of Scholars, published a hard hitting article two weeks ago in the Dailysignal.com, accusing Alfred University of having ties to Chinese Communist officials.  It is highly likely that this article from the DailySignal.com, could have played a role in Congressman Mike Gallagher’s move to get Alfred to get going in the direction of closing down it’s Confucius Institute.

Latest Info on the Brush Fire in Jasper

November 11, 2022

From Steuben County Fire Coordinator Timothy Marshall:

At approximately 10:20 AM Thursday, November 10th, Jasper Fire department was dispatched to a possible brush fire on Norton Hollow Road in the Turkey Ridge State Forest Land.

Forest Rangers will continue to assess the situation over the next several days until the fire is completely out.

Approximately 75 firefighters from the following agencies assisted in this fire:Jasper, Greenwood, West Union, Woodhull, Troupsburg, Andover, Canisteo, South Hornell, North Hornell, Addison and Bath. Arkport and Howard Fire Departments provided Standby coverage. Jasper Ambulance provided EMS Standby at the scene. “I want to thank all the voters who trusted me with their vote, and the volunteers and family who have been with me on this ride. While I regret not being able to serve you in Congress, I can assure you the effort to run was worth it. It is always important to provide the voters a choice, even when the odds are against you. The election results show many voters want their Representative to be bipartisan and oriented toward public service rather than one committed to divisive partisanship and self-interest. Unfortunately, there were not enough of them.
The results of today’s election will have consequences. My hope is that voters will not give up on the election process or our democracy but will rather recommit themselves to responsible government motivated by public service rather than by party, money, power, and ego. In the future, I hope we will be led by our better angels and principles, so that our country will truly become one nation indivisible, with the fulfilled promise of liberty and justice for all.” said Della Pia.

ITHACA, NY – From Leslie Danks Burke’s Twitter Page:

“No woman is surprised when a man who achieves his professional goals by skirting boundaries and bullying others, also uses his power to trample sexual boundaries. It is all abuse of power. This was true of President Trump, too. It’s time for Governor Cuomo to go.”
