Work on the Smith Hill Road bridge replacement project in the Town of Erwin/Hamlet of Coopers Plains is on schedule, and on track to reopen in late November, according to Steuben County Public Works Commissioner Eric Rose.
Rose said crews have set up a detour, established a causeway to allow access mid-river to the Cohocton River and removed the existing bridge. New concrete abutments are in place and a mid-river pier has been built, he said.
Crews also have started riverbank armoring with heavy stone, Rose said.
Rose said the remaining work includes:
* Backfill abutments
* Finish armoring the riverbank
* Set bridge beams
* Pour concrete bridge deck
* Pave approaches on roadway
* Install new guiderail
* Landscaping
* Remove detour
The bridge crosses the Cohocton River between Curtis Coopers and Dyke roads, with a completion date now set at Nov. 22.
