ALFRED, NY, June 29, 2023 – Danielle White, who has served as the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement since 2015, was promoted to the role of Vice President of Institutional Advancement in January. White has worked in the Institutional Advancement office at Alfred State since Dec. 2009.

“I am grateful for this promotion and recognition,” commented White. “I have been fortunate to work with an exceptional team that works hard together to make Alfred State an amazing place to work.”

Alfred State President Dr. Steven Mauro values White’s impact. “The change in title reflects the expanded role and responsibilities she has taken on in the engagement of our over 50,000 alumni in preparation for a comprehensive fundraising campaign. Under her leadership, I am confident we will continue to be successful in raising funds that support the success of our students and the college in so many ways.”

White was also recently elected to serve on the SUNY CUAD Board of Directors. SUNY CUAD is the organization for advancement and communication professionals in the State University of New York System.

“Being appointed to the SUNY CUAD board of directors is a great honor.  I am excited to be part of this board which is comprised of leaders from across the entire SUNY system.”

Prior to joining Alfred State, White served as the director of marketing and the executive director of the foundation at St. James Mercy Health System, as a marketing product manager at World Kitchen, and as a marketing category manager at Advantage/Pezrow.

White holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a BS in marketing from Canisius College.

U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced today, that $1,223,040.65 in federal funding is going to fire departments across the state. Schumer and Gillibrand noted that $110,979.42 will go to the Hornell Fire Dept.

From Senator Schumer: “From Hornell to Hamburg, our brave firefighters are always on the front lines risking their lives to protect our communities,” said Senator Schumer. “These courageous first responders deserve all the federal support possible to ensure they have the equipment they need to keep themselves and our communities safe. I’ve fought my whole career to deliver resources for New York’s firefighters, and today’s funding will keep our fire department prepared to take on any emergency.”

From Senator Gillibrand:“New York’s firefighters work tirelessly to protect our communities,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding will provide them with the equipment, training, and resources they need to stay safe as they respond to emergency situations. I will continue working to ensure that New York’s fire departments have what they need to continue defending our communities on the front lines.”

The City of Hornell is excited to kick off its summer program this week. The City pool at Veterans Memorial Park at James Street opened on Sunday, and today, the summer program begins on playgrounds at Columbian School, High School, Stephens St., Madison Ave., and James Street. The City of Hornell summer playground program operates from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm, closing for a lunch break from 12 pm to 1 pm.
The pool partnership with the YMCA has been wonderful and continues to benefit residents. Last year, Mayor John Buckley initiated the pool sponsorship program, which provides free swim on certain days, and Mayor Buckley will once again be sponsoring the pool on Independence Day, providing free swim to everyone from open to close! If you are interested in sponsoring a day of free swim, please contact the YMCA.
There are many exciting improvements planned for James Street in the coming year. Last month, the City ordered $40,000 worth of new playground equipment to be added to the existing playground near the handball wall. Delivery of the new equipment is expected in January, with assembly and installation taking place in the spring.
As many may recall, the City also received a $427,000 grant from NYS Parks to put towards the upgrades at the park. These upgrades include replacing the tennis courts, which will include two pickleball courts, resurfacing the basketball court, replacing the old baby pool with a fun splashpad, and upgrading the pool house and locker rooms. Mayor Buckley announced at the June Common Council meeting, the bid period for this project is open now, and construction is tentatively planned to begin this Fall. Many visiting the park may notice the existing parking lots have been resurfaced, and a new parking lot has been constructed behind the pool to accommodate the growing number of park visitors. Upgrades to the concession stand building are also planned for the coming year.

Empire Report New York has a story up this morning on how the state last week, almost passed a ban on employee non-compete agreements that workers sign so they don’t take a job with a competitor.

The governor still might sign it though, so we’ll see.
